How to Take the AI Purity Test

Every checked box lowers your score by one point

AI Purity Test

Free. Private. Entertaining. In that order.

The AI Purity Test is a 100-item checklist that scores your relationship with artificial intelligence tools the same way the Rice Purity Test scores general life experience. You start at 100 points, and every statement you check, from “used a chatbot to draft an email” to “had an AI edit a photo of yourself,” takes one point off.

There is no pass or fail. It is a self-assessment format, not an exam, and it was built to be taken in a few minutes rather than studied for. The format traces back to Tina Tarighian’s original version of the test, which several sites (including this one) have since adapted with their own question sets and scoring displays.

AI Purity Test Score Meaning: What Your Number Actually Says

Your score is a snapshot, not a verdict. Here is how the ranges are generally read:

Score RangeCategoryWhat It Suggests
90–100 AI Newcomer Very limited hands-on use of AI tools so far.
75–89 Casual User Occasional use for simple, low-stakes tasks.
50–74 Regular User AI shows up in your work or creative process fairly often.
25–49 Heavy User AI is a routine part of how you work, write, or create.
0–24 Power User Extensive, near-daily reliance on AI across many contexts.

A high score does not mean you are behind, and a low score does not mean anything is wrong with your habits. It reflects exposure and usage, not skill, ethics, or intelligence.

The 100 Questions:
What Categories They Cover

The questions are not random. Most versions, including this one, organize the 100 items into a handful of groups so your final score reflects a range of behavior rather than one type of use:

①

Basic Awareness

Whether you have used a chatbot or AI tool at all.

②

Everyday Usage

Drafting emails, summarizing text, answering quick questions, and handling simple daily tasks.

③

Creative Use

Creating AI-generated art, writing, music, presentations, or video content.

④

Dependency

Whether AI has become a default step in your workflow rather than an occasional tool.

⑤

Social Behavior

Sharing AI-generated content or presenting AI output as entirely your own work.

⑥

Advanced Use

Building with AI, automating workflows, fine-tuning models, or using AI for business decisions.

Because the categories are broad, two people with the same overall score can have very different day-to-day AI habits. The number is a summary of all six areas combined, not a single behavior measured on repeat.

AI Purity Test vs Rice Purity Test and Other Versions

The Rice Purity Test came first and still covers the widest ground: relationships, risk-taking, substances, and general life milestones. The AI Purity Test borrows that same declining score mechanic and narrows it to one theme.

Rice Purity Test

broad life experience, the original format this entire genre is built on

AI Purity Test

same scoring logic, focused entirely on AI usage and exposure

Other Niche Versions

college-specific, gaming specific, or fandom specific checklists using the same format on a narrower topic

The main difference with the AI version is how quickly it goes stale. A gaming or college purity test from a few years ago still mostly holds up. An AI focused one needs updating far more often, since new tools and habits enter daily use faster than most other categories these tests cover.

Is the AI Purity Test Scientific

No, and it was never built to be. There is no peer reviewed methodology behind the scoring, no clinical validation, and no standardized question bank across every version online. It is a self reflection tool and a social sharing format, closer in spirit to a personality quiz than a diagnostic instrument.

That does not make it useless. It gives people a low-pressure way to think about how AI tools show up in their daily routine and a shareable format for comparing notes with friends or coworkers. Just do not treat the result as a measurement of intelligence, ethics, or skill, because it was not designed to measure any of those things.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a low AI purity test score bad?

No. It simply means you have used AI tools across a wide range of situations. The test does not rank usage as good or bad.

There is no good or bad score. It reflects your current level of AI exposure, not a performance result.

100 questions, organized into categories covering basic awareness, everyday use, creative use, dependency, social behavior, and advanced use.

The Rice Purity Test measures general life experience. The AI Purity Test applies the same scoring format to one topic: your interactions with AI tools.

Yes. Many people retake it periodically since AI habits and available tools change quickly.
